    WEAR WIGS? ... WHY YES!

Recently in an interview I was asked if I wear wigs all the time. I don’t. As a matter of fact, I haven’t worn one in more than five years. And before then, I just did it for fun or on rare occasions even though I’ve worn extensions and hairpieces to give my natural hair a little boost. At that moment I realized I didn't know exactly what my clients go through living with wigs on a day-to-day basis. I’ve always been convicted and passionate about helping my clients and giving them the information and education they need to have a great experience with wigs. That’s what really prompted me to start on my 30-day journey. I want to know the benefits and struggles they go through and how it affects them emotionally on a daily basis. I didn’t have the answers yet, but I was ready to find out. Come with me as I take you through my wig experience.

    Day 1

Today marks the beginning of my 30-day journey and all I can say is 'so far, so good'. I decided to go with a wig I tried on about a year ago, which was in my closet. It’s synthetic, so it kept the style pretty well in the bag. And I didn't have to do too much except shake it out and put it on. Guess what? I'm a redhead right now! It's funny how color can change your mood (I feel a little sassy). No wig cap because I don't have one at the house. But I used a ton of bobby pins! Throughout the day I felt a little self-conscious, like I had to explain that I have a wig on. But the truth is it actually looks better than my hair does most days. And by the end of the day, my hair looked just as good as when I started this morning!

    Day 5

On the fifth day, I went blonde. My hair is naturally light brown. Well, actually, it's naturally dark brown. But I've been dying for about five years to a lighter brown. Seriously though, blondes most definitely have more fun! I went with a shorter blonde wig with dark roots because I felt it looks more natural. But, I kinda feel like I look totally unnatural. I’m sure it’s just because I'm not used to seeing this. But everybody seems to love this one. It makes me feel like I look younger.

    Day 7

    Amelia by Envy

OK… Verdict is in. It’s day seven and blondes definitely have more fun! This week’s wig is really great, but it's a little on the pricey side because it's human hair. The only disadvantage is that I do have to style it. (I confess, I had help styling this one.) It feels amazing. It’s so weird because I still feel like me but every once in a while I catch a glimpse in the window or mirror and it's so shocking how different I look. I really like it, though. I never thought I would like a shorter wig like this chin length bob I’m wearing.

    Day 9

It’s day nine now and I’m realizing how much the people you know and see on a daily basis really aren’t paying that much attention to how you look. People at my kids’ school and at the office either don't notice a thing or they don't want to mention it. It seems people don't care as much as I thought they would. By now the self-consciousness about having a wig on is completely gone! It's starting to feel normal.

Don't miss our next post in this 4-part series!

The key to pulling off any great look is confidence. And whether you have a round, square, long, oval or heart-shaped face, there’s a beautiful hairstyle that’s perfect to help you set the mood this Valentine’s Day. Our Wig Experts selected 5 picks based on customer feedback from our top rated brands with style tips you can mix and match to create a romantic look you’ll feel confident about.

Long hair tends to lengthen a round face shape. A few inches below the chin or longer with straight hair makes the sides of the face seem smaller. Gentle waves that begin below the lips can also reduce roundness. To achieve this look, we recommend Amber by Jon Renau.

Consider adding little braids on the sides and pinning them back, or simply twisting the hair on the sides and pinning them back for that romantic flair.

Long bobs elongate a square face. The angles on this face shape can be softened with waves, curls and side-swept bangs that graze the brows. You may also consider a middle part to achieve the same effect. Try this look with Jolie by Noriko.

You can have your stylist trim it shorter in the back, being mindful to keep the hair longer in the front and keeping the pieces soft and layered.

The goal for a long face is to create the illusion of width. Shoulder length hair (anywhere between chin and shoulders) with waves will give you a romantic look. We recommend Upstage by Raquel Welch to achieve this look.

Consider asking your stylist for an a-line long bob, avoiding anything that adds layers to the top of your head. You can try bangs, any style from blunt, to long, or side swept will make the face appear shorter by covering the forehead. A side part is an idea that will make your face appear wider, minimizing the length. If you prefer longer hair, try it with waves or curls.

For oval faces, any chin to shoulder length hair that is long in the back and shorter in the front, with layers near the cheekbones, lips, chin or any area you want to highlight is ideal. You can add beachy waves for a touch of romance. To achieve this look, we recommend Shannon by Rene of Paris.

Pixie hairstyles are feminine and look particularly good on a heart-shaped face because they tend to emphasize the cheekbones and eyes. To achieve this look we recommend Risk by Ellen Wille.

Sideswept bangs are another favorite which draw attention down and towards the eyes on a heart-shaped face. You may also want to try a graduated bob with a bit of a wave, or a chin-length bob that’s heavier at the bottom. If you want curly hair be sure to have them tapered at the ends. If you prefer long hair, try it with bangs, or soft curls to soften a pointy chin. Remember to keep top layers soft and long with this face shape.

We’d love to hear from you. Please share your photos and comments with us on Instagram and Facebook!

As you all know, earlier this month we launched three exciting new collections from the celebrity-endorsed brand known by its beautiful Bellas as the premier spot to get long, luscious locks. We are proud to welcome BELLAMI Hair to the Beauty & Hair family!

BELLAMI, which means “Beautiful Me”, continues to cater to the latest hair trends by introducing these glamorous 100% Remy human hair extension lines: Kylie Hair Kouture, Lilly Hair and Balayage by Guy Tang.

We took the first opportunity we got to try them on for ourselves, and this is what our Wig Expert, Roxie, had to say:

Guy Tang Bayalage Color: #1C/18 by Bellami Hair

This was my first experience with Bellami Hair, and I absolutely fell in love the second I put them in.  My hair has always been very thin, so I keep it in a medium bob because if I don’t the ends get brittle. I’ve worn many different brands of extensions and I couldn’t believe how well Bellami blended with my own hair.

Being in the hair business, I’ve had the opportunity to experiment with lots of different wigs and extensions. What I love the most about Bellami is the wefting, which lies flat on my scalp giving the extensions the appearance of my natural hair.

Guy Tang is one of the most talked about color specialist in the world, and I got my perfect Balayage color! Color #1C/18 gave me the best of both worlds with the Platinum Gold Blonde tips accenting the Dark Chocolate Brown perfectly.

With my new hair I feel I’ve become a Bellami Bella!

    Kylie Hair Kouture

Kylie Hair Kouture Color: #2/TEAL by Bellami Hair

Here’s what we love about the Kylie Kouture collection: it comes in sixteen color options in the 180 grams, 20 inch range with six of the shades dipped in a vibrant Teal Ombre (giving you the opportunity to try a bold color statement without the commitment). The InvisiWeft technology not only keeps the extensions from shedding or getting tangled, but the wefts lie flat against your scalp and feels very secure. We were pleased to see how well the pieces can blend into your own hair elevating you to that next level of effortless modern glam!

    Lilly Hair

Lilly Hair Color: #2 by Bellami Hair

For when you want to achieve that voluptuous and glamorous look, Lilly Hair is excellent! Bigger is definitely more beautiful with this luscious line, giving you impressive volume and length in the 260 grams, 20 inch range by creating a fuller, more luxurious hair experience. It comes in twelve different natural hues from Jet Black, to Chestnut Brown, to Vibrant Red, and even Beach Blonde. We love that in-spite of the length the wefts are super soft and manageable. You’ll look gorgeous in these extensions; we were so in love with having long hair that we didn’t want to take them off!

    Balayage by Guy Tang

Guy Tang Balayage Color : #4/18 by Bellami Hair

As one of the most popular hair requests in salons, balayage is becoming a phenomenon. We love how it allows for a natural-looking and subtle, sun-kissed ombre. Brought to you by celebrity hair genius, Guy Tang, Balayage gives you instant salon-exclusive hair in five different colors with the Balayage 160 grams, 20 inch range, and Balayage 220 grams, 22 inch range. Our favorite thing about this collection is that it gives you the balayage experience without ever having to walk into a salon!

Wigs have incredible power to make you feel confident and beautiful. I know because I have seen it and my customers have told me about their own experiences. No matter what brought you to wearing wigs, putting one on can instantly change your attitude. (We all have that one sassy wig, right?! I can’t be the only one.)
