The Rooted Look | Love It or Hate It?

What do you think about the rooted look?

Many of the wig styles available on are available in 'rooted' colors for the same effect. It's true - now wigs are being made with a root slightly darker than the rest of the hair for a more natural and believable look. Wig manufacturers like Raquel Welch, Jon Renau, Noriko, Revlon, and Rene of Paris are all looking out for us!

Nobody has the schedule for frequent touch-ups at the salon - not even celebrities and movie stars. These days... it's a trend! Celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams and Madonna (to name just a few) all dare to show the rooted look ...

Our own hair grows darker and lightens with the sun towards the ends. So some say the rooted look is more natural.

Please let us know what you think about the rooted look!

My hair is light brown and doesn't grow in noticeably darker. I don't need dark roots on wigs that have natural colour blends. Only hair with a highlighted pattern, or a much lighter colour than my own, would need to have darker roots. I'm really happy with the brands that make roots in a medium to light brown, as that is more credible on me than dark brown or off black.

I have medium/dark brown hair and look great in auburn or a medium brown with dark blonde or red highlights. I find there are practically no auburn red colours or lighter browns which show rooted. Do wig manufacturers believe that that only blonde colors should have roots? Jon Renau is the worst for this. They have great styles but are severely limited in rooted shades.

Wig manufacturers continue to evolve and we're that in no time we'll have rooted reds and brunettes. Wigs are only getting better!
