Exciting news! Don't miss Hollywood legend and beauty icon Raquel Welch's return to the small screen on Oct. 5 in the Lifetime original TV movie House of Versace. Gina Gershon stars as Donatella Versace, and Raquel plays Donatella's Aunt Lucia in the fashion biopic, based on Deborah Ball's 2010 book. Best of all, Raquel wears her own wig Fashion Statement in the movie!

One of the fabulous wigs from her new Fall 2013 Signature Hair Collection, Fashion Statement by Raquel Welch is a short, versatile style with an extended nape. Sweeping layers on the top and sides reflect the dramatic hair of Hollywood’s Golden Age. It offers a Sheer Indulgence™ lace front that creates a natural looking hairline and allows for off-the-face styling versatility. The Memory Cap® II base provides a light, cool and comfortable fit. You too can make a bold statement in this fashionable style!

Also from the Fall Collection, Gorgeous is a long, layered and loosely curled style. The softness of this wig is feminine and flirty. It offers a Sheer Indulgence™ lace front that creates a natural looking hairline and allows for off-the-face styling versatility. The monofilament part creates the appearance of natural hair growth and allows for parting flexibility. And the Memory Cap® II base provides a light, cool and comfortable fit. If you love both length and luxury, this is the look for you.

Modern & Natural Wigs Styles for Women of Color Styles shown: Soft Curls by Sherri Shepherd NOW & Hayden by Vivica Fox

Women of all races, colors and ethnicities wear wigs. But African American women are known to wear wigs not only out of necessity, but also for fashion. And why not? Wigs allow you the flexibility to change your hairstyle and color as often as you’d like. That’s why you often see the term “African American wigs,” which are actually just wigs from brands that design their styles with the African American woman in mind. They are typically not that much different than other wigs.

The truth is that a woman can essentially wear any wig. But brands like Sherri Shepherd NOW and Vivica Fox (formerly Beverly Johnson) are usually considered “ethnic” brands, and many African Americans prefer them because of the style and color options. Other popular African American brands are Forever Young and Motown Tress. These brands are known for wigs that are designed for and marketed to African Americans.

That being said, many African American women also wear wigs from other brands, such as Raquel Welch and Jon Renau. And many Caucasian women wear Sherri Shepherd NOW and Vivica Fox wigs. It’s really a matter of the individual wig’s style, length, hair type, hair texture, color and cap construction. For example, all of the brands mentioned so far offer wigs that are short, mid-length and long; curly, wavy and straight; lace front, capless and monofilament; synthetic and human hair; and both light and dark colors.

At, we often photograph African American models in traditionally non-African American wigs to emphasize that there are truly no racial restrictions when it comes to wig selection. It’s really just all about what you like, what you think looks good on you, and what features you want in your wig. When shopping, we recommend you explore all options, regardless of whether or not a wig is labeled as African American. Why limit yourself? We have hundreds of beautiful wigs to choose from!
