wigs.com - race for the cure - susan g komen

Every year Wigs.com participates in bringing awareness about breast cancer by participating in the Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure. We care very much about this cause and were more than happy to attend and support in any way possible.

The truth is a lot of people wear wigs because they have to, due to cancer or other illnesses. And seeing everyone participate and come together reinforced why we do what we do. Our goal has always been to provide an outstanding customer service experience and beautiful wigs for people who want and need them. Several of our team members have lost loved ones to cancer, so it was a wonderful feeling to run and support them.

We had a blast participating and handing out goodies to our fellow runners. Our pink gorilla was quite popular at the race. Check out our pictures below, you'll feel like you were there with us!

Susan G. Komen Dallas just sent out their promotional postcard reminding everyone to register for the upcoming 2010 Race for the Cure. Guess who they featured on the front…

    Wigs.com employees !

Proudly wearing bright pink wigs are members of the Wigs.com team. The guys even wore them! Among other Wigs.com employees, these 4 participated in the 2009 Race for the Cure event in Dallas. As a group, they wore bright pink China Doll wigs by Jon Renau. It's one of our favorite costume wigs, and the team was among a sea of thousands of other race participants also wearing pink wigs, pink costumes, pink running gear, and more.

Wigs.com is excited to have an even larger presence at this year’s race. Think Pink!

This week, Wigs.com donated a dozen wigs for a The Glamour Squad event that we attended. This event took place at a local children’s hospital – Medical City of Dallas, Texas - in which young patients from the hospital received makeovers and had a day all about them.

The Glamour Squad organization was started in part by Jenna Owens (above photo, far left). Jenna is best known as a radio personality on KISS FM’s Kidd Kraddick in the Morning. The young girls who attended the event are bravely living with and enduring cancer and other illnesses. For many of them, day-to-day life can be stressful, painful and certainly not fun. The Glamour Squad was a chance for these beautiful girls to be pampered, feel pretty & escape for some much-needed and well-deserved fun.

This day of pampering included facials, makeup, and manicures. The girls even got their hair done by professional hairstylists, or they received a brand new wig from Wigs.com. Of course there were portraits taken and gift baskets too.

Wigs.com’s CEO and owner, Carliz Sotelo Teague attended the event and remembers the words of one lovely girl on her spa day - “This is the best day I’ve ever had!” Also to attend was Wigs.com associate Brian Rutledge. “Some people might take the little things for granted,” Rutledge said. “But not these kids. It was clear that this day meant a lot to these girls, and I came away with a new respect for the everyday stuff.”

Our hearts were certainly full after meeting the inspiring young ladies on the day made just for them with The Glamour Squad. Stay tuned for more Community Outreach and philanthropic efforts from Wigs.com – The Wig Experts.
