    Everything old is new again!

For months now we’ve noticed a retro vibe creeping onto the hair worn on the red carpets and fashion runways alike. At the beginning of the year we saw the revival of pin curls and finger waves, but now the hair has gotten better (and bigger) than ever! From ponytails to beehives, these old favorites are getting revamped in trendy ways.

This season you can recreate any of these hairstyles with a colorful twist!

    Back to the Future

The hair roll worn by Demi Lovato with pink tips.

    Photos by WireImage.com

Demi Lovato revived the 1950s hair roll with her pink-tipped hair. The look has ‘rockabilly’ written all over it, but if you add a little bit of color you too can rock a modern take on the pin-up look with color hair extensions. If you're a wig wearer, make sure to wear a monofilament wig when recreating the hair roll to ensure the most realistic look.

The 1960s beehive may have been Amy Winehouse’s signature style, but Teen Vogue magazine gave it a major makeover with huge neon dyed hair. You can get the same look without the commitment by clipping in colorful extensions into your hair or wig. (Psst… the brighter the better!)

A colorful high pony hairstyle as worn by Katy Perry.

Madonna brought back the “I Dream of Jeannie” ponytail in the 90s, but this year we’ve seen it on a ton of celebrities including Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato. Katy Perry gave it her personal touch with extra-long color hair extensions. A ponytail hairpiece can give you the high pony look. Plus, by pairing it up with clip-in color hair extensions you can splash some life into it and still keep up with the trend.

What will be the next trend to resurface? Whether it’s the Afro, The Rachel (too soon?) or the Mohawk, you can count on us to help you with the details!

Haven’t you heard? Everyone is wigging out!

But in a good way! Wherever you look, wigs are haute and totally in fashion.

Whether it’d be hair extensions or wigs the fact is everyone is wigging out for alternative hair!

    Why wigs?

    ecards-wigs-are-the-new-black Image by someecards.com

Why wear wigs… why not?! You could get so much out of wigs if you give them a chance. They come in all sorts of colors, shapes, textures - not to mention all of the hairstyle possibilities! Think about how long it takes you to simply decide on a different hair color or hair cut. It’s such a permanent change most of us are scared to make the commitment. But with wigs you can go from one look to the next in an instant – change your look like you change your mind!

    Wigs for Everybody

Wigs are no longer taboo; everyone and anyone can wear them. They’re not just for women with temporary or permanent hair loss anymore. Wigs are not only for those that need them. What’s more, they’re becoming part of pop culture. Can you imagine what Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj or Katy Perry would look like without their wigs? Musical talent aside, it simply wouldn’t be the same!

synthetic hair wigs Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry Lady Gaga look: Obsession by Risque wig; Nicki Minaj look: Party Girl Candy Stripe by Jon Renau wig; Katy Perry look: Tease by Incognito wig

‘Real Housewife’ Kim Zolciak revealed her own hair after taking off her wig. And her hair looked completely normal and beautiful! She wears wigs because she loves them. On a recent Facebook post, Kim said “I love my wigs, I love how easy they are. You just put them on and go, you can chose straight hair, curly hair, whatever I am feeling for the day. I do not do extensions, because it damages your real hair. So I will keep on wearing my wigs until the day I decide it's time to move on.” For her it’s all about comfort and versatility – exactly what you get from wigs.

So get with the times and get your wig on!

    Bangs.

    Perms.

    Sun-In.

Do we hear a unanimous cringe? Yeah, most of us have a hair problems, don't stress out tress outspray-in hair highlighter or perm horror story to tell and boy, are they scary (and ugly!). We’ve all been there – stuck with a case of bad hair blues. Think about how long it took you to grow out those self-cut bangs, or that bad perm… painful to think about it, isn’t?

The thing is too often you end up with a hairstyle that is either too costly, high maintenance or damaging to your natural hair. There’s no reason why you should put your hair under so much stress, especially if your hair is thinning and falling out.

With summer only a few weeks away you must be itching for a new look. And we all know you’d do just about anything in the name of good hair. But would you give wigs and hair extensions a chance?

    Hair Extensions & Wigs

The times are changing and alternative hair is becoming the norm. Just take a look around you! It’s super easy to change up your hairstyle with a wig or hair extensions - and the choices are endless. You can go from long to short hair without ever picking up a pair of scissors. If you’re looking to be a sassy redhead for the night, or have wildly curly or sexy tousled hair, you really don’t need to resort to those harsh chemicals that will harm your own hair.

Protect your hair by wearing wigs and clip-in hair extensions. There’s no shame in wearing them, they’ll only make your life easier.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths - National Donate Your Hair Day

When we heard about the first-ever nationwide call to chop off our locks for someone who has lost their hair to cancer treatments, we were happy to see the awareness reach a national level. We were ecstatic when we found out two employees from the Wigs.com family were willing to participate! Donating hair for wigs is a wonderful opportunity for us to give back and help those who need it the most. Participating is important to Wigs.com because we want to set an example by supporting the first national day designated to donate hair for wigs.

    National Donate Hair Day

Pantene and Seventeen Magazine teamed up to host this first national event which will benefit the Beautiful Lengths program. For those of you who don’t know, Beautiful Lengths is a partnership between Pantene and the American Cancer Society that encourages women (and men) to grow, cut and donate hair to make wigs for cancer patients. The hair donated today will be used to craft beautiful, high-quality wigs by HAIRUWEAR®. This company manufactures wigs for brands like Raquel Welch®, Gabor and Hairdo among many others.

    Why Donate Hair for Wigs?

As we all know, human hair doesn't grow on trees, so the demand for human hair wigs is extremely high - donating your hair is a great way to help those women in need. We encourage all of you to make the ‘kindest cut of all’ and help make a difference. So please, think about it & donate hair!

If your hair is too short at the moment (8 inches minimum), you have a whole year to grow it!

Donate Hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths FAQ’s

How long must my hair be to donate?

The ponytail must be at least 8 inches long (no maximum length). Although some charities will accept less than 8 inches, these ponytails cannot be used effectively to make a wig.

If your hair is wavy or curly, measure it when straight.

Can I donate dyed or color treated hair?

Pantene Beautiful Lengths requires “virgin” hair, this means hair that is free of permanent color, bleach or other chemical treatments such as Japanese straightening. Since each ponytail comes from a different person with a different shade of hair, it is important to absorb dyes at the same rate in order to create a wig of the same shade of color. Only virgin hair can be processed and then dyed to the same shade.

The same goes for gray hair – no more than 5% gray hair is recommended. It is harder to color and, once colored, fades more quickly.

    What's the difference?

Have you ever found yourself shopping around at Wigs.com only to get stuck on two very similar styles with extremely different price tags? Take these two styles by Jon Renau, other than one being slightly longer than the other, why is there a difference of more than $400 between the two? Simple: Haute is a synthetic hair wig, while Nicole is a human hair wig. But you may still be asking, “Why so much?”

Haute & Nicole by Jon Renau wigs

Haute by Jon Renau – synthetic                       Nicole by Jon Renau – human hair

The simple answer goes back to the basics of economics: supply & demand. As wigs become more commonplace, people are becoming more knowledgeable about the quality of wigs. Human hair wigs are highly coveted by customers; they know human hair wigs are the best, so they want the best. And the number of human hair wig customers keeps increasing every day. There are more people buying these wigs than there are human hair wigs available. You’ve heard the saying “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” Well, guess what? Neither does hair.

    Where does it come from?

Did you know that hair from eight different people is needed to make just ONE human hair wig? That’s right, you read correctly - eight. It may also take up to several weeks to complete one human hair wig. The number of people willing to sell or donate their hair to make wigs is not increasing as fast as the number of people who want to purchase them.

The human hair used to make these wigs can be Chinese, Indian or Caucasian (European) hair. Chinese and Indian hair is the most durable due to their texture; they can withstand the most chemical processing. Caucasian, or European hair, is desirable because the fine texture is silkier, and feels the most natural.

What’s so great about human hair?

When it comes to the most natural look, nothing beats human hair. Nothing looks or feels better than the real thing. Human hair wigs can almost be treated the same as your own hair. You can cut, style – using a blow dryer, straighter and curling iron – and in some cases even dye your human hair wigs. If a natural and versatile look is what you are looking for, you cannot go wrong with a human hair wig. Also, human hair wigs last much longer than synthetic hair wigs – in some cases they can last up to a year!

The use of remy hair is another reason why the cost is greater. Usually human hair goes through a process called ‘stripping’ in which the hair strand is stripped of its cuticle and forced to fall into an unnatural direction. Although remy hair does go through a cleansing treatment, it does not go through this stripping process. That means the hair strand’s natural protective cuticle layer remains intact, maintaining the hair strand’s natural health and strength. The resulting texture is the closest to your own natural healthy hair. An added plus to remy hair is it provides long-lasting, tangle-free wear.

Human hair wigs are definitely an investment. This is why you should take extremely good care of your human hair wigs. You paid good money for them so make sure to give them plenty of TLC! If you have questions regarding how to properly care for your human hair wigs, please refer to this helpful guide.

    Ah... springtime.

Spring brings to mind the birds & the bees, but if you have one in the oven you've probably been thinking about it a lot longer…

    The Hair

With the season change, your wardrobe changes and so does the hair. Many of us are trying to come up with a stylish and quick way to change our hairstyle without the use of harsh chemicals - especially if you're pregnant.

The America College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) say only a small amount of color dye is absorbed through the skin, so it's safe to use during pregnancy. You should still be cautious; the first three months of your pregnancy are the most delicate. Try to limit the use of any chemical until your second trimester.

Pregnant Kourtney Kardashian lightened her hair

Don't want to risk it? No problem, the 'rooted' look is on trend, just ask Rihanna... Just kidding! Although ombre and rooted hair colors are on trend, they're usually much more subtle than Rihanna's obvious hair fail. So, what to do if you don't want chemicals anywhere near your hair? Read on! We're here to help!

    Wigs

The most obvious of all the solutions would be, of course, a wig. They have come a long way and can look just as natural as your own hair. Also, they're not nearly as hot or heavy as they used to be in the past. Many of them are only two ounces in weight! When your roots are simply too much to ignore, a wig can cover a multitude of (hair) sins.

Between rushing out the door and the morning sickness - do you really want to worry about doing your hair? No, you don't. That's exactly why wigs are so convenient!

With so many different options available, you're sure to find the perfect one for you.

    We recommend:

Entice by Raquel Welch short shag wigEntice by Raquel Welch is a super comfortable short shaggy wig. Just add some styling product and you're ready to go!

Angie by Envy short modern bobAngie by Envy is a super modern short cut for the stylish future mommy! The lace front & monofilament top will give you the natural look you desire.

Scorpio by Revlon short bob wigScorpio by Revlon is the perfect bob for the chic mom-to-be!

Enigma by Raquel Welch long wigEnigma by Raquel Welch is a classic mid-length cut with a blunt bang. This wig is comfortable and on trend!

Angelique long wig by Jon RenauAngelique by Jon Renau is a popular long layered wig style (available in a large cap). Don't let the length fool you, this classic hairstyle is made from a lightweight fiber.

    Hair Extensions

Pregnant Jessica Simpson wears hair extensions to add length & volume to her hair

If you're simply looking to change your hairstyle, you can always incorporate hair extensions or hairpieces to your look. You can add length, volume, and color with extensions. Also, extensions are an awesome solution for the mommy-to-be on a budget!

    We recommend:

Style A Do by Hairdo UpdoWant a quick updo? Try the Style-A-Do / Mini-Do Duo Pack . You'll be a hip stylish mommy in no time.

23" Wrap Around Pony by HairdoIf you want a long sleek pony try to 23″ Wrap Around Pony – it can be styled any way you’d like! Make it curly, make it straight, just have fun!

16" Human Hair Clip In Color StripsFor a fun look, add color to your hair with the 16" Human Hair Clip In Color Strips.

Clip In Bangs by Hairdo Clip in Bangs are perfect to change your look without the commitment. You'll be a big hit!

Styleable Headband Fall by HairdoStyleable Headband Fall is perfect to add instant length and volume to your hair.

    BeautiMark

    Intensive Recovery Mask by BeautiMark

Depending on how your body is responding to the prenatal vitamins your hair may or may not benefit from them. That's why we recommend our Intensive Recovery Mask BeautiMark. This product does wonders for your hair and it's a great way to indulge and treat your hair. Additionally, this mask is completely natural! Parabean & Sulfate-free, which means you won't be introducing any chemicals into your body.

There's no reason why your hair shouldn't look great during one of happiest moments of your life. Think about the kid!

What's your face got to do with it?

As much as you covet Michelle Williams' perfect pixie or Rose Byrne's blunt bangs and bob combo, for one reason or another you hesitate. Something inside tells you that not only do both of those styles imply drastic changes, but you know they simply don't go with you. "I can't pull it off," you might think. And honestly, you probably can't. The culprit is your face shape. Therefore while some hairstyles are perfect, others… not so cute. Hey, we can't have it all!

That's why today we're giving you the scoop on what hairstyles to avoid and which ones to rock for your face shape:

    Round Face

    Round face shape

If you fear the roundness of your face will make you appear bigger than what you really are, don't fret! The key is to elongate and cut the width of your face.

    Avoid:

    • Chin-length bobs, exaggerate the roundness
    • Short curly hairstyles create a round shape around your face
    • One-length cuts, accentuate the roundness of your face, especially when parted down the middle

    Do:

    • Layers help soften wide cheeks
    • Side-swept bangs add length to a round face shape
    • Height at the crown lengthens the face

    We recommend these wig styles:

Infatuation by Raquel Welch Jennifer by Jon Renau Bobbi by Envy

Any hairstyle that increases the height of your face is favorable.

    Heart-Shaped Face

    heart-shaped-face

Your face has such a unique (and loveable) shape that will work with most hairstyles. However, having a wider forehead and pointy chin, you'll want to divert the attention from both.

    Avoid:

    • Blunt bangs, draw attention to a pointy chin
    • Short full styles that emphasize the upper face
    • Height at the crown, draws the focus to a wide forehead

    Do:

    • Rounded bobs fill out the chin by creating width to the jaw bone
    • Cheek-level layers/bangs soften a harsh pointy chin
    • Layered and wavy curls add fullness to the chin and help round out the face.

    We recommend these wig styles:

Carrie by Jon Renau Upstage by Raquel Welch Roll With It by Forever Young

Don't forget your goal is to find a hairstyle that offers balance to the face.

    Oval Face

    oval-face-shape

Your face shape is among the most common and the most versatile. Aren't you a lucky gal?

    Avoid:

    • Short layers can make face appear long
    • Curly blunt cuts, these create a pyramid effect
    • Voluminous hair hides your proportioned features

    Do:

    • Short bobs give the illusion of a square face shape
    • Layers or waves to accentuate cheekbones
    • Updos and hair pulled back, show off our face

    We recommend these wig styles:

Scorpio by Revlon Christina by Wig Pro Caressa by Forever Young

Your features are balanced and proportionate – don't be afraid to try different hairstyles!

    Square Face

    square-face-shape

Worried your face is too harsh and may appear masculine? It's all good. Haven't you heard? It's hip to be square!

    Avoid:

    • Chin-length bobs, will make your face appear boxy
    • Pixie cuts emphasize the squareness of your flat chin
    • Straight heavy bangs will only accentuate your jaw line, making it appear heavier

    Do:

    • Textured hair (curls, choppy ends, soft & flowy) soften hard angles
    • 'Lobs' with side-swept, layered eye-grazing bangs give a diagonal illusion and keep the focus away from the squareness
    • Center parts make your square brow appear more narrow

    We recommend these wig styles:

Destiny by Henry Margu Nicole by Jon Renau Limelight by Raquel Welch

Some of the most beautiful women have square shape faces. You're in good company! Just remember to soften the sharp angles and minimize attention to your squared-off brow.
