There’s no greater feeling than when we know we're having an amazing hair day!

Wigs make every day a great hair day. But just how much should you spend for great hair?

    1. Not all wigs are created equal.

Premium features like lace-front and human hair can make all the difference in how natural your hair looks and feels. But just because one feature is more expensive than another doesn’t make it the right choice for you.

    2. Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.

Did you know that a good quality cap can take up to 30 hours to make! The meticulous craftsmanship that goes into each hand-made design ensures wearing your favorite, cute style feels like wearing nothing at all. Learn more about Cap Construction here.

    3. Not having to spend hours in the salon chair…Priceless.

Think about the time suck of your last salon visit. Remember the anxiety of hoping they get the cut right? The awkwardness of convincing yourself that “It’s just a haircut” when they didn’t?

Higher-end wigs are all about giving you the perfect salon look without a trip to the salon. You get just the style you want. And because the denier and texture of quality synthetic hair looks and feels so much like human hair, human hair wigs are not your only option. Checkout out our previous post about synthetic and human hair to find out which is really the best choice for you.

Having a great hair day is like a perfectly timed, witty comeback. You feel like you can take on the world. Give yourself permission to feel as great as you know you are. You’re totally worth it!

    The Truth

You’ve heard the phrase, “You get what you pay for.” And if you’ve spent any amount of time with wigs, you've noticed that the ones made of human hair are generally more expensive than the ones made of synthetic fiber. But does that necessarily exclude one over the other as the better choice?

The truth is Human hair and Synthetic hair both have their advantages and disadvantages. Let’s take a look at just a few of them.

    Human Hair

    Advantages

Of all the hair types, human hair looks and feels the most natural. Remy human hair is considered a premium option because its easier to style and stays relatively tangle free due to all the follicles being kept in the same direction during construction. Human hair is remarkably soft with a shine and movement not easily duplicated by synthetic hair. Its versatility allows you to style it like your own hair with curls or bone straight with a durability that can last over a year!

    Disadvantages

Not only is it more expensive than synthetic hair, but just like natural hair, human hair wigs requires a lot more time and effort to style and maintain. If you have a busy lifestyle or a low budget, this may not be the choice for you. And just like natural hair, human hair will react to weather conditions.

    Synthetic Hair

    Advantages

With all the technological strides the wearable hair industry is making, synthetic hair looks and behaves more and more like human hair. The fact that most synthetic wigs can be worn right out of the box with minimal or no styling requirements makes it a more attractive choice. And, unlike human hair, synthetic hair will hold its style regardless of the climate.

    Disadvantages

It’s just this resistance to change that makes this type of hair a poor choice if you desire the versatility of styling. In most cases the synthetic fiber has “memory” which means that the wave and curl patterns are permanently set; styling any other way is nearly impossible. There are heat-friendly synthetic options which allow styling like human hair wigs. But styling is still a challenge due to the fiber’s natural resistance to change.

    Bottom Line

Ideally, you want both types of hair on hand as both are great choices for different situations. The best one depends on your budget, time and needs.

    Final Words of Wisdom

Regardless of which type of hair you choose, remember that it is always important to follow our care recommendations in order to get the optimal life span from your hair!

If there’s one thing we know, it’s that our clients desire wigs and hairpieces that allow personalization and comfort. But how do you find one that ticks both boxes and doesn’t end up looking, well…wiggy?

Inspired by international fashion trends, Ellen Wille introduces the Prime Power Collection to Wigs.com. It’s like nothing you’ve ever felt before, and here’s 5 things we love about this new collection:

    1.       It’s Human Hair – Enhanced!

Prime Power is designed for the woman with discerning taste. The unique blend of high quality human hair enhanced with premium synthetic fiber makes Prime a standout in the luxury hair market.  With the look and feel of human hair combined with the stylability of synthetic hair, you truly get the best of both worlds!

    2.       Longer Lasting Style

Illusion by Ellen Wille | Color: Auburn Rooted

Illusion by Ellen Wille | Color: Champagne Rooted

Prime Hair is perfect for the woman on the go! What we love is that Prime Hair means never having to trade off style for convenience. The premium synthetic fiber withstands heat of up to 350 degrees, and the unique blend of human and synthetic hair means the style holds even longer (even after washing!)

    3.       Color Vibrancy

Mood by Ellen Wille |  Color: Chocolate  Mix

Mood by Ellen Wille | Color: Ginger Blonde Mix

There’s nothing worse than dull looking color! Ellen Wille recognizes that each color has different needs in order to maintain its optimal long lasting vibrancy. That’s why the blend of synthetic hair to human hair in the Prime Power collection is different for each color to create the perfect result for your individual style.

    4.       Premium Cap Construction

Spirit by Ellen Wille | Color: Champagne Rooted

Spirit  by  Ellen  Wille  |  Color:  Espresso  Mix

When it comes to looking natural and feeling comfortable, the cap construction plays a major role! Known for innovation, Ellen Wille’s Illusion, Spirit and Mood in this collection feature a very thin hand-knotting to provide the most natural look. The lace front blends seamlessly into the front part to replace the well-known monofilament, which gives you the look of natural hair growth along the hairline. And the caps are adjustable and lightweight to give that extra bit of comfort.

    5.       More Than Just Wigs

True by Ellen Wille | Color: Espresso Mix

Real by Ellen Wille | Color: Mocca Mix

Included in the Prime Power Collection is True which is an ultra-lightweight, face framing bang with a monofilament base and three pressure sensitive clips that give you a secure fit. Want volume? Real is the perfect feathery and fine top piece that gives you added volume that seamlessly integrates with your own hair.

We tried Ellen Wille’s new collection and we loved styling it with our heat tools [look for this in our upcoming blog post]. The cap construction made the wigs feel so light that we liked running our fingers through  it. The colors were amazing!  We love the lighter shades in the long wigs like Spirit and Illusion and for short styles like Mood, brunette shades looked absolutely gorgeous!

We love your comments. Let us know what you think. Shop the collection

    DAY 13

I have to say not having to do my hair every morning sure is nice. It takes about three minutes to brush it back and put a wig on. Loving it! And note to self… I have decided I DO NOT like nylon wig caps. The little band starts to hurt my head after about three or four hours. I don't think my head is too big, but maybe I should measure it anyway. I have learned NOT to comb my hair straight back. It makes my head sore with the wig on like when you wear a really tight ponytail all day. But when I comb my hair over to the side and pull it back it feels much better all day!

    DAY 19

Spirit by Ellen Wille | Auburn Rooted

Nope. My head is regular size. I'm learning never to brush my wig from the top down. I find I get much better results when I use my fingers or the BeautiMark comb. It looks way more natural! I picked up my kids in a long dark wig that was the same color as my natural hair and my daughter was so excited. She said I look like her! She kept staring at me and said I looked so much different than I have been lately. Isn’t it amazing how hair can make such a difference in the way we are perceived?

    DAY 24

Speaking of perceptions, the question people keep asking me is, “Is it hot?” I guess that's the general perception. In fact, it is one of the top questions almost everyone asks when I talk about wearing wigs. The truth is it really isn't hot. Not the good ones anyway! Of course, I'm mindful that the Texas 100° months are behind me so I'm sure anything is hot then. However, so far, the wigs are really very breathable and comfortable. I had squeaky clean hair today. It was straight which helped my wig slip on easier. I put a little hair spray on my head around the front to help it stay in place. Oh, and I also tried the nylon again. I really didn't like it before. But I snipped a little slit in the elastic band and it works great. It holds my hair back but doesn't press in on my head!

    DAY 31

So today I asked everyone in the office to join me in my challenge by wearing a wig for the day so they too can understand our clients a little better! It was so much fun seeing people try on this lifestyle for a day. It was very enlightening for some people, and it might've started an addiction for others. Although I work here, I don't have access to see every color we have every week. So I ordered one based on the color I saw online. When I got it, it looked a little different than it did online. However, once I put it on and went outside it looked more like the color online under natural light. Now I know what my clients are talking about when they have this issue.

Power by Raquel Welch is a best-selling, customer favorite since 2007. The ready-to-wear synthetic hair looks and feels like natural hair. And the open wefting in the cap creates better air ventilation, which provides more coolness on the scalp. It’s breathable and lightweight for a more comfortable fit.

In terms of hair, our days can be summed up as this: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

On good days we’re flying high, flaunting our locks every which way. On bad days we throw on a hat or abuse the allotted one time a week ponytail (kudos if you got the ‘Mean Girls’ movie reference). And on ugly days? You stay home. OK, so no one really stays home due to a bad hair day, but you know you’ve thought about it... We’ve all been there.

Synthetic hair wigs and extensions to the rescue! Whether you’ve lost your hair, or the little you do have doesn’t want to cooperate, wigs and hair extensions are a girl’s best friend. Honestly, when we need the extra help there's no reason why a heat-friendly synthetic hair wig or extension can’t do the trick. You see, once properly styled, your heat-friendly synthetic hair will stay put all day long regardless of what goes on in your environment. Unlike normal hair, synthetic hair doesn’t fall victim to the elements such as humidity and rain. You haven’t seen ugly until your hairstyle has been rained on!

Styling your heat-friendly synthetic hair wigs and hair extensions is very similar to styling your own hair, with only a few exceptions. The following instructions are only for heat-friendly synthetic hair wigs and hair extensions.

Note: We recommend keeping hot tools under 350° Fahrenheit. Also, keep in mind that once you alter your wig and/or hair extension you won’t get the original style back – but don’t worry you can change the style as many times as you’d like!

Curl Heat-Friendly Synthetic Hair with Curling Iron

Want to curl your wig or hair extensions? Easy! Just follow the 3 C’s:

    1. CURL
      • First of all, DO NOT curl hair while on your head. Use a canvas block or Styrofoam head to style your wig. You can hold down your hair extensions on a table or hold it with your hand and style.
      • Make sure you comb hair free of tangles (the Hair Trix Comb by BeautiMark is ideal).
      • Take a 1–1.5inch section of hair (smaller sections give you tighter curls, larger sections give you looser curls).
      • Gather hair in curling iron, smooth through to the ends, roll up towards weft.
      • Hold for 15-20 seconds, release curl into palm.
    2. CLIP
      • Hold the curl in one hand, gather up towards the base and clip it in place.
    3. COOL
      • Let hair cool completely before removing pin to effectively set the curl.
      • Hair can be combed using an appropriate comb.

Straighten Heat-Friendly Synthetic Hair with Flat Iron

Sexy glossy straight hair is super easy!

    1. Again, DO NOT style hair while on your head.
      • Use a canvas block or Styrofoam head to style your wig.
      • You can hold down your hair extensions on a table or hold it with your hand and style.
    2. Take a 1–1.5inch section, starting at least 2inches away from the base. Slowly smooth flat iron down towards end, follow with a comb to keep hair looking smoother.
    3. Continue through ends (2-3 times if needed).
    4. Allow hair to hang naturally to cool.

Getting your “wig-on” is all fun and games, however, for the fun to actually continue we have to take proper care of our wigs. Please refer to our Synthetic Hair Special Care page to learn how.

    Tools used:

    1. Duck bill clips
    2. Hair Trix Comb by BeautiMark
    3. 1" Nano Ceramic Flat Iron with Smart Heat Controls
    4. 1" Nano Ceramic Curling Iron with Smart Heat Controls

Now you’re ready to start styling your heat-friendly synthetic hair! Wasn’t that easy?
