    Jon Renau and EaiHair

High heat synthetic fiber, with its ultra-fine denier and natural look and feel, is more luxurious and realistic than any other synthetic fiber. This technologically advanced fiber captures the natural sheen of healthy human hair and gives the wearer the heat styling benefits without the high investment. If not cared for properly, this fiber will tangle more than traditional synthetic fibers. Follow these recommendations to prevent tangling on your high heat synthetic alternative hair:

    Use professional grade heat-styling tools
Professional grade tools are designed to deliver well-distributed heat without causing damage to the hair via their ceramic or tourmaline plates. Using tools with digital temperature settings is also important to ensure the correct temperature is being used. High heat synthetic fibers can withstand heat tools up to 350° F, however, Jon Renau recommends setting any heat-styling tool (curling iron, flat iron, etc.) at 270°-280° F.

We recommend using heat protectants and styling sprays that prevent damage to your high heat synthetic wig or hairpiece.

Jon Renau Heat Treat Thermal Spray

Our pick: Jon Renau Heat Treat Thermal Spray
(This is also great for use on human hair!)

Use DAILY detanglers that are specifically designed for synthetic fibers to combat frizz
High heat synthetic fiber will frizz. Tension and friction are two of the main causes of frizzing and can be avoided with proper care and maintenance. Prolong the life of your high heat synthetic fibers by using products designed to restore the vitality of your HD wig every day. This is especially important with medium to long length high heat wigs or hairpieces.

Jon Renau HD Smooth Detangling Spray

Our pick: Jon Renau HD Smooth Detangling Spray

Additionally, use tools that will prevent frizzing and tangling in your daily routine. Use ONLY the Jon Renau Wide Tooth Comb to style your high heat synthetic wig or hairpiece. ALL OTHER BRUSHES AND COMBS WILL CAUSE FRIZZING AND WILL DAMAGE THE FIBER.

    Jon Renau Wide Tooth Comb

Our pick: Jon Renau Wide Tooth Comb

Wash your wig or hairpiece every 6-8 wears
Washing your wig or hairpiece every 6-8 wears ensures you are removing the sweat, make up, and oils from your skin that sit within the elastic base of the cap and break down the cap much faster. Doing this will help the cap and fiber last longer.

    Air dry for best results
Allow your high heat synthetic wig to air dry naturally instead of blow drying to help maintain the integrity of the fiber. Allowing your wig to dry overnight will help ensure there is no moisture left in the cap, which can result in stretching.

Place an order for a great wig at a really cheap price online? Chances are it’s too good to be true. Check first!

Chinese knock off sites use clever schemes to take money from their victims annually. The knock off industry is a BIG business worth as much as $461 billion according to an April 2016 post from CNN.com. Consumers fall for the allure of high ticket items at drastically reduced prices. Often they are left with nothing at all, or a far inferior product than the advertisement they clicked on.

The wig industry is not immune. Customers are taken in by beautiful images of name brand wigs and extensions offered at deep discounts. Instead, they receive fake products or may not receive anything at all. And once the transaction is complete, it’s nearly impossible for them to get their money back.

What can you do to protect yourself?

If the deal looks too-good-to-be-true, it very well may be. Unless it is a site you know is an established U.S. company, do a little checking on your great deal. Often these scammers use the image of celebrities (regularly stolen from across the web) to make you believe that you will receive the same look once you click on their product.

    - We recommend that you shop with the names you’re already familiar with and trust. These companies are established and can be held accountable by the Federal Trade Commission and the BBB. Make sure there is a U.S. presence which can be reached by phone. Call it. Make sure you are speaking to a person who sounds like they are here in the US.
    - Be on the lookout for Celebrity photos or photos with wigs or celebrities which don’t have a name or brand listed on each photo. Anytime there is a photo of a celebrity (or any model) hairstyle and not a wig… you can be sure you are getting a knockoff.
    - Price is certainly a factor. Unless it is a clearance item on a reputable website designed to clear a few styles and or colors… it is unlikely any wig is going to be sold for discounts 50% or higher. When the entire selection of wigs are at such discounts, it’s a tell-tale sign of a knock off site.
    - Payment options - if the site has a western union and/or wire transfers as payment options… look out!

Of course, these are some of the biggest flags to look for in protecting your shopping experience. The Scam sites are getting more sophisticated but you can still spot them if you are on the lookout for them. Sites like Wigsbuy.com, Wigsis.com, wigsfly.com, and many more are taking millions from consumers every year. We found these and several more sites to beware of on www.wigs-scam-alert.com.

There are predators loose within the wig industry. They are taking advantage of the growing popularity of wigs….and so many unsuspecting women. It isn’t right but it isn’t being stopped. Do the only thing we can… speak up and spread the word. If you’ve been fleeced by these scam sites, let us hear about your experience.

We always want to look and feel our best. Warmer temperatures doesn’t mean you have to give up your style.

Here are 5 of our Wig Expert tips to help you look hot, but stay cool!

    Go Capless.

    1. There are many different types of cap construction. But if keeping cool as a cucumber is your main goal...

    Basic Cap & Capless

Basic and Capless are lightweight designs that allow air to flow more freely, which is certainly a smart choice! Checkout this video for more information about basic and capless wigs.

    Go Synthetic.

    2. Synthetic wigs are perfect for getting style that lasts. Zero styling hassle makes synthetic wigs a no-brainer for a girl on the go! With the amazing innovations in synthetic fiber, they are nearly undetectable from human hair. And because the fiber is light, you’ll look hot without being hot.You may be interested in our previous post where we compare synthetic and human hair options.

    Go Short.

    3. Face it... Short is Chic! Sporting a great short cut can definitely spice up your look while keeping hair off your neck. Summer is the perfect time to give them a try. Take a look at our collection of short, capless wigs.

Does giving up your long locks fill you with as much anxiety as the thought of being separated from your phone? We hear ya! Try braiding your hair. There are tons of fun styles that make braids an ideal option for long wigs. And you get more control, as well as a more natural look than you do with a ponytail.

    Go Protected.

    Daily Protect Leave-In Spary

    4. We wear sunglasses to protect our eyes from the sun’s UV rays. In the same way misting your wig with a daily protecting, leave-in spray once or twice throughout the day will protect it from the sun. Checkout our care products to keep your wig in tip top shape all year long.

    Don’t Sweat It!

    5. Wanna know a wig wearer's best kept secret? Sweat liners! We recommend the No Sweat Liner by HEADLINE IT! Not only are they great at wicking away perspiration to keep you dry and comfortable, but the hygienic liner reduces odor causing bacteria. Best of all, it’s disposable.

Although we can't eliminate the heat for you… We hope these tips help keep you looking and feeling a little cooler.

Brought to you by the experts at:

Human hair that is used in the alternative hair industry goes through extensive processing for sorting, coloring, texturizing, etc. before it is attached to the base of a wig, hair system, or extension. Due to this processing, alternative human hair must be cared for differently than biological hair. Following proper care and product recommendations will help you protect your investment and have a successful experience with your human hair piece:

Jon Renau recommends washing your wig or hairpiece every 6-8 wears

The common misconception about care is that by washing your wig/hair system more often, the cap and fiber will not last as long. On the contrary, washing every 6-8 wears ensures you are removing the sweat, make up, and oils from your skin that sit within the elastic base of the cap and break down the cap much faster.

Deep condition your human hair wig or hairpiece every 3-5 washes to keep the vitality of the human hair

Keep away from any hand-tied areas of the base when applying conditioners, conditioning treatments, or any oil-based products. These products can loosen the hand-tied knots over time and cause hair loss in your wig/hair system.

Use care products that are specifically formulated for alternative hair
Although professional salon products are formulated and work great for biological hair, alternative human hair requires different care. It is essential to use only products that are specifically formulated for alternative human hair and refrain from using salon or drugstore care products.

    Use professional styling tools
Whether the hair is wet or dry it is important to take special care when removing tangles. We recommend using a brush with plenty of cushion in the base and flexible wide-spaced bristles. This design prevents excessive pulling that causes breakage in the hair, in the knots or in the delicate area of the lace front or monofilament.

Our pick: Jon Renau Paddle Brush

When blow drying, we recommend using a boar bristle brush with about 20% nylon bristles to adequately grab the hair without creating too much tension. Additionally, the brush’s nylon bristles must be longer than the boar bristles in order to help smooth the hair and ensure a sleek finish.

Our pick: Jon Renau Round Boar Bristle Brush

This brush is intended for use on human hair only, not traditional or high heat synthetic fibers.

    Use professional grade heat-styling tools
Professional grade tools are meant to deliver well-distributed heat without causing damage to the hair via their ceramic or tourmaline plates versus the less expensive metal or glass plates found in lower quality tools. The digital temperature settings on professional heat-styling tools also ensure you are working at the correct temperature all the time. To help maintain the integrity of the hair, your styling tools should be set no higher than 350° F when working with human hair.

We recommend only using non-sticking protectants and styling sprays that prevent heat damage to your human hair wig or hair piece.

Our pick: Jon Renau Heat Treat Thermal Spray

If you’ve been purchasing the same wig in the same color for years, you’ve probably run into the situation where the manufacturer decided they are no longer producing your wig in that color. And if you’ve tried to replace it for a similar wig in the same color but maybe a different material, you’ve probably been disappointed because the color doesn’t look the same as it did on your monitor when you received it.  Frustrating!

The reason this happens is because the material a wig is made of will affect the color.

If you paint three objects the same color but one is made of brass, the other of plastic and the third of wood, the brown color will look different on each one.

In the same way the same shade of brown will look different on a wig made of human hair, synthetic fiber, and even heat-friendly synthetic wigs.
