5 Must-have Wig Essentials for Summer

With soaring temperatures and more time spent outdoors, it’s essential to adjust your wig routine to keep it looking fresh and flawless. The right wig care products and accessories can make all the difference. Let’s dive into the season’s must-have wig essentials for summer!

Wig Care Products & Accessories for Summer

1. Wig caps and liners.

Wig caps and liners act as a barrier between the scalp and the wig. Fishnet liners allow the scalp to breathe and are great for keeping bio hair tucked up underneath the wig. For those with sensitive scalps, Jon Renau’s Softie cap is perfect! The fabric is made with viscose from bamboo to create its super soft quality and impeccable breathability. On extra hot days, use a No Sweat Liner. Its moisture-wicking properties will keep your scalp cool, comfortable, and dry.

Pro Tip: If wearing a wig cap or liner feels too warm but you want a more secure fit, try BeautiMark’s Sure Grip. Plus, it can be placed in the freezer and worn underneath the wig to help stay cool.

2. Hair Accessories.

Styling a wig can help keep hair off the neck and prevent friction frizz. Experiment with low ponytails, braids, headbands, and even claw clips to keep the hair back.

Pro Tip: If a wig doesn’t have an ear to ear lace front or extended lace front, keep hairstyles low to avoid any wefts from showing.

3. Wide Tooth Comb.

For mid-lengths and longer styles, use a wide tooth comb to brush the wig throughout the day to keep it tangle-free. Use a detangling spray to help smooth out any knots.

Pro Tip: Always start combing the wig from the bottom and slowly work up to the top to avoid putting tension on the hair and pulling out any of the fibers.

4. Wig Shampoo & Conditioner

While we generally recommend washing your wig every 6 to 8 wears, more frequent cleansing may be necessary—especially after outdoor wear or physical activity. Sweat, oil, and makeup can build up in the cap and damage the wig hair fibers. Additionally, this buildup can also lead to skin breakouts for those with sensitive scalps.

Consistent maintenance is key to extending the life of your wig. Use a shampoo and conditioner that’s specially formulated for alternative hair to cleanse your piece gently yet effectively. After washing, place the wig on a stand and allow it to air dry for 24 hours. Make sure the wig is completely dry before wearing it! Learn how to wash a wig here.

Pro Tip: In between washes, revive your wig with a mist of BeautiMark’s Purifi Spray. to leave fibers lightly scented and refreshed.

5. ResQ Bag

Amy Gibson’s ResQ Bag is the perfect accessory for traveling. This must-have bag has a special mesh lining to help prevent the hair fibers from tangling and frizzing. Plus, it has pockets to keep all wig supplies neatly in place and ready to use.
