Breastcancer.org was founded by Marisa C. Weiss, M.D in 2000. This non-profit organization is dedicated to providing accurate and up-to-date medical information about breast health and breast cancer. Breastcancer.org strives to help every person and loved one affected by breast cancer by providing the extra information and support if needed. Their support community is highly active and available to all seeking such an environment.

Breast Cancer & Treatment

Breast cancer is an uncontrolled growth in the breast cells that is a result of mutations or changes in the genes responsible for regulating the growth of cells and keeping them healthy. In order to treat the growth, a variety of treatments can be prescribed. Unfortunately, the treatments prescribed to fight the cancer, such as chemotherapy, radiation, and hormonal drugs, can cause hair loss. Each person’s breast cancer development and treatment is different, so the information provided can be confusing at times. This is why Breastcancer.org was created.

Wigs.com & Breastcancer.org

In 2019, we teamed up with Breastcancer.org to help provide education about wigs for people experiencing hair loss due to treatment for breast cancer, as well as fundraise for this organization’s programs. Wigs.com set a goal to raise $100,000 by offering customers the option to add a donation to their shopping cart. In honor of breast cancer awareness month, Wigs.com also matched all donations to Breastcancer.org received through our website in October 2021. We're happy to share that we reached our initial goal in 2021…and we’re still going!

To date, thanks to the generosity of every single one of our clients who have contributed, over $325,000 has been donated to Breastcancer.org.
