Meet Emily Herrin

Hair loss can be an emotional and deeply personal experience, but for many women, it also becomes the beginning of an unexpected journey toward self-acceptance, resilience, and new possibilities. In this exclusive interview, Wigs.com ambassador Emily Herrin reflects on the challenges of losing her hair, how wigs helped her feel like herself again, and the supportive community she's found along the way.

About Emily

Wigs.com: Tell us about yourself and how your journey with hair loss persuaded you to be such an inspiration in the hair loss community.

Emily: "My name is Emily, and my journey with hair loss has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. When I first started losing my hair, I felt heartbroken and unsure of where to turn. I remember standing in front of the mirror and not recognizing the person staring back at me. But through that pain came purpose."

"Discovering wigs opened a door I didn’t even know existed. It gave me a way to feel like me again and, over time, even better than before. That’s what led me to share my journey publicly on @she_sheds_more. I wanted others walking through hair loss to know they aren’t alone and that beauty and confidence can absolutely be rebuilt. What once felt like a loss became the thing that connected me to so many amazing women and gave me my voice."

Finding Confidence with Wigs

Wigs.com: How has wearing wigs influenced your confidence or other areas of your life?

Emily: "Wigs completely changed my life. I often make the comment 'the power of wigs' because I truly feel like wigs have given me power, self-confidence that I was always lacking. When I first started wearing them, it was about covering what I had lost. But now it’s about expressing who I am. They’ve given me the confidence to walk into any room and feel like myself again."

"Beyond confidence, wigs have taught me so much about self-acceptance. I learned that beauty isn’t defined by hair, it's defined by how you carry yourself and how you make others feel."

Wigs.com: What advice would you give to yourself at the beginning of your wig wearing journey?

Emily: "I promise no one is going to know you are wearing a wig. That was my biggest fear and what held me back from diving into wigs in the beginning. Also, the first wig you try might not be 'the one,' and that’s okay. Give yourself grace to learn, experiment, and make mistakes."

"I’d also remind myself that confidence takes time. The first time you wear a wig in public might feel scary, but one day you’ll forget it’s even there because you’ll be too busy living your life. And trust me, there will come a day when you look back and smile, realizing how far you’ve come."

Wigs.com: What is the biggest challenge with wearing wigs?

Emily: "In the beginning, the hardest part for me was where to even start. I knew absolutely nothing about wigs. It’s a learning curve for sure trying figuring out fit, style, care, and finding what truly feels like 'you.' There are days when it can be frustrating, especially when you’re still new to it all."

"But that’s why community matters so much. Once I connected with others going through the same thing, I realized we’re all just figuring it out together, and that made me feel like I wasn't alone on this journey."

Wigs.com: What do you love most about wearing wigs?

Emily: "Honestly, the freedom! I love being able to change my look whenever I want. I think I would be so bored now having the same hair everyday. Some days I want long, flowy waves; other days I’m all about short and chic and wigs make that possible."

"But more than anything, I love how wigs make me feel. They allow me to feel beautiful, put-together, and confident in every season of life. They gave me back something I thought I had lost forever, my joy!!"

"Wigs have also brought me incredible friendships, sister for life. For me, those relationships are priceless. What I thought would completely destroy me has been the biggest blessing."
