Hairstyle Trends for 2012

Trends to Try

Every New Year begins with hopeful dreams and a daunting little thing called “resolutions.” The word alone is enough to scare anyone away, add to that – losing weight, saving more, getting out of debt and we’re ready to throw in the towel. The problem with each of these goals is it takes time to see results – if any (come on, get real). Changing your hairstyle, however, is a great way to get an immediate sense of accomplishment. And most importantly, feel pretty.

So that brings us to today’s post: What’s on your head for 2012?

If you’re ready for a change, whether it’d be permanent or not, choose from the following hairstyle trends for 2012. But hurry because they’re spreading like wildfire! As is the case with any trend, hair fashion this year is all about revival and evolution.

Glistening Hair

No time for a blowout? No problem! Go a la naturale! Glistening slicked back hair, a.k.a. “the wet look,” has been prominent on the fashion runways and red carpets alike. Air-dry your hair, add gel and/or mousse to the roots and either wear your hair slicked back or in a ponytail. If you’re going to try this look on your wig make sure to use the appropriate products for your synthetic or human hair wig. This will not only ensure the best look but will prolong your wig’s longevity.

Center-Part

Coined by Glamour magazine, “Cher hair,” the center part hairstyle is a throwback to the ‘70s long straight hair. For a bohemian look, simply air-dry and part your hair down the middle. If you want a super sophisticated look, straighten your hair with a flat-iron and finish off with a frizz-free hair serum. You’ll be singing “I Got You Babe,” in no time!

Finger Waves

If straight hair is not the thing for you… but you’re kind of sick of spiral curls, finger waves might do the trick. This hairstyle was very popular in the 1920s and 1930s (think Roxie Hart/Renée Zellweger’s hair in the musical Chicago). Apply gel generously to the hair, and comb the hair into ridges and curves using your fingers. Quick tip: an easier way to achieve this look is to create the ridges with a flat-iron instead of using your fingers; this will give you a softer look and last longer. The end result is an ultra glam Old Hollywood hairstyle. Who needs sexy? Let’s bring Glamorous back!

Bold Color

Obviously Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry are responsible for the bold color trend. Last year, the pastel color family was in vogue (cue Kate Bosworth’s horrible tie-dye highlights). For 2012, the bolder the better! From Selena Gomez to Katy Perry, numerous celebrities have started to show their true colors this year. Are you afraid of making the commitment? Try a wig! It’s the perfect way to experiment and have some fun. By the way, can somebody tell Kelly Osbourne that her grey-toned hair is so 2011? Actually scratch that, artificial grey hair has never (thankfully!) been a popular trend.

Braided Updos

2011 was partial to the braid: side braids, high braids, low braids, and fishtail braids – you get the picture. Well, for 2012 the traditional braid is getting a makeover! Limp plaits are a thing of the past, now it’s all about twisted buns and intricate updos. Charlize Theron was one of the first celebrities to give this trend its debut at the 17th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. So all you savvy hairstylists out there give those fingers a stretch and get to braiding! If you’re not as experienced with weaving hair and the look intimidates you – no worries! You have all of 2012 to learn.

There you have it, all promising hairstyle trends for 2012! So which one will you try?

Wigs on Screen | MTV’s 2010 VMA Awards

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards aired last night, and the celebs wigs were hot. Along with the crazy outfits and popular performances we loved, Wigs.com spotted a few celebrity ladies donning wigs for the event…

Nikki Minaj wearing a pink beehive wig. She loves wigs with bright colors and pastels, and we like that Nikki is always trying new wig styles and shapes. This one pairs well with her purple futuristic costume.
Pictured with Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas wearing a pink and black rubber wig. Interesting…
Rihanna performing with Eminem on stage. We’ve seen her recently with a short boycut hairstyle dyed bright red, but tonight she wore a wavy wig in the same color. We like the hair accessory and her take on the Madonna bridal outfit with combat boots.
The aficionado of wigs hersef – Lady Gaga wore a long, wavy lavendar wig with touches of bright blue on the ends. But a wig wasn’t enough for this costumed queen; Gaga added a golden feather headdress. Later in the evening, she pulled back the wig into an updo for a wardrobe change.
