Hair Extensions FAQs

The longevity of your hair extensions depend on what the hair fibers are made of and how well you care for your hair extensions. For example, with proper care, human hair extensions can last up to 6 months to 1+ years. Synthetic hair extensions can last up to three to six months.

It all depends on your preference. Extensions can be made from synthetic fibers and human hair. Human hair extensions look natural and seamlessly blend into your hair. They also can be styled with heat tools, too! Synthetic extensions resemble the look of real hair and feel soft. However, you cannot use heat tools unless it’s made of a heat-friendly synthetic fiber.

Hair extensions offer these advantages:

  • If you have short hair and want a temporary change, hair extensions will give your hair more length.
  • They give the hair more volume and give the appearance of fuller hair.
  • Hair extensions are easy to install.

Hair extensions offer these disadvantages:

  • Improper application and removal can cause traction alopecia.
  • Getting the wrong color or texture can make hair extensions not blend in well with your hair.
  1. First, you’ll want to prepare your hair for the extension. Take a small section of hair that’s about 1-2 fingers and part it horizontally. Then, twist the section until it's completely rolled up. Tuck up the hair horizontally and pin it flat to the back of your head. Doing this method will help the extensions conceal any short strands of hair.
  • Expert Tip: Clip your extensions a little bit away from the scalp. This method helps make wearing your extensions all day more comfortable, prevents the clips from digging into your scalp, and gives you more freedom of movement.
  1. Next, take out your extension kit and begin this process at the bottom of your head because it’s the narrowest part. Start with the narrow weft first and clip in the extensions.
  2. Then, take the next two wider wefts and work your way up the back of your head. Doing this method helps you follow the natural shape of your head.
  3. This next step varies on the type of extension kit you have. There will be either double clip wefts or one small single for the sides of your hair. Place those wherever you need. You may even find you don’t want to use them at all.
  4. Lastly, when you're putting in the extensions, get a wide tooth comb and brush through your new hairstyle.

Hair extensions can potentially damage your natural hair. Wearing hair extensions too often and improper application and/or removal can cause the hair to weaken or break. If you already have thin hair or are losing your hair, we do not recommend getting extensions. The clips require at least an 1” of strong hair to clip onto for not only a secure fit but also to help prevent breakage.
