Meet Carly

Meet Wigs.com ambassador Carly. With a lifelong love of fashion and beauty shaped by years in dance and theatre—hair had always been central to her identity. When unexpected hair thinning in 2022 led her to step away from extensions, Carly discovered how wigs not only restored her confidence but also evolved into a powerful journey of self-acceptance, community, and empowerment.

About Carly

Wigs.com: Tell us about yourself and how your journey with hair loss persuaded you to be such an inspiration in the hair loss community.

Carly: "My passion for style and transformation started young. From the time I was a kid, I loved everything about dressing up, and as I got older, that blossomed into a love for fashion, hair, and beauty. I spent hours pouring over magazines, trying to master every tutorial. I was also active in competitive dance and theatre, so I had tons of experience playing with different hair and makeup styles to create characters."

"For about ten years, I wore extensions, and my hair became a core part of my identity. So, when it started to thin unexpectedly in 2022, I was devastated. My stylist confirmed my fears—my scalp just couldn't handle the extensions anymore. In a single appointment, I went from the long, thick hair I was known for to just my bio hair in a close-cut bob. Finding wigs was the path to reclaiming my confidence. I’ll never forget putting on that first wig that looked just like my old bio hair and feeling that spark come back. And then, when I realized I could lean into the versatility, trying any color or style I wanted, the game was completely on!"

"While my journey started with hair loss, it became about community, friendship, and playing with style. Once I turned that corner, I couldn't keep it to myself. I never want anyone to feel the way I did, and I’m passionate about contributing to a conversation that normalizes hair wearing for all reasons."

Finding Confidence with Wigs

Wigs.com: How has wearing wigs influenced your confidence or other areas of your life?

Carly: "It's been transformative. Wearing wigs helped me untangle my self-worth from the opinions of others."

"For so long, especially while navigating hair loss, I think many of us weigh our confidence on how we think other people see us. Wigs were this incredible tool that helped me shift my focus inward. They helped me realize that how I felt about myself was infinitely more important than the opinions of anyone else. It allowed me to reclaim my confidence from the inside out."

Carly's Advice For New Wig Wearers

Wigs.com: What advice would you give to yourself at the beginning of your wig wearing journey?

Carly: "I would tell myself to be patient and that there is no 'right way' to do this. But most importantly, I'd say: 'It's okay. No one is looking as closely as you think they are. This journey is for you.'"

"I'd also gently tell her that no matter how hard we try, we're never going to be a 'dark, brooding, brunette' and that is perfectly okay! I’m a blonde and copper girlie through and through, and I just needed to accept that and find the pieces that felt like me."

Wigs.com: What is the biggest challenge with wearing wigs?

Carly: "Honestly? Not buying them! Kidding, that’s the fun part!"

"[The] biggest challenge is getting over that initial, internal hurdle of wearing a wig out in public for the first time."

"I think so many people are afraid of that first experience. We build it up in our heads, worried about what people might think or say. It's just the fear of the unknown. But getting past that first day, and realizing that you just look like you, is the most freeing part."

Wigs.com: What do you love most about wearing wigs?

Carly: "The versatility, without a doubt. I’m someone who thrives on novelty, and the ability to change my hair daily to match my mood or my outfit is a huge benefit."

"But on a practical (and heartfelt) level, I just love that my hair can look great and be weather-proof without my having to worry about it for a second. That peace of mind is priceless."

Carly's Top 5 Wigs

Wigs.com: What are your top five favorite styles?

Carly: **audibly gasps** "I could never pick a favorite! But if I had to - it would definitely be: Raquel Welch's Runway Rehearsal and Model Mode, Envy's Corey, Ellen Wille's Dua, and [Amore's] Rohan (in the pink!)."
