About Kristyna

Wigs.com: Tell us about yourself and how your journey with hair loss persuaded you to be such an inspiration in the hair loss community.

Kristyna: "I’m Kristyna! I’m married to my wonderful husband, Bruce, and we have two beautiful kiddos, Jackson and Blakely. I’m a Commercial Development Manager by day and then moonlight as a wig-enthusiast and cheerleader for my fellow hair loss sisters!"

"I’ve never had great hair, let’s be honest…but my hair loss really started in my early 20’s and progressed rapidly in my 30’s. My hair loss stems from my two autoimmune diseases, Discoid Lupus and Sjogrens. My hair loss made me so incredibly self-conscious, and after I had my daughter I knew that I needed to take control of how I treated myself – I never wanted Blakely to grow up feeling like she was anything less than beautiful just because of her hair, body type, features, etc., so I decided to take the plunge into wigs. It was the best decision I ever made."

"For the first time in my life I could have beautiful hair and it felt amazing. It was a long, uncomfortable journey to get myself to the place I am today, but by putting myself out there to the world and being vulnerable it really took all of the power away from my insecurities. Hair loss as a woman is incredibly hard to go through, and it can take us to some seriously dark places. I never want women dealing with this to feel alone or hopeless, so it’s been an absolute joy to be able to support and help other women get to this place as well."

"Confidence is contagious, so my hope is that by helping other women to feel confident in their alternative hair wearing (and hair loss), they will in turn help other women whether it be online or in their community. The more that we share and normalize hair loss and alternative hair, the less scary and taboo it will be for the generations of girls after us!"

Finding Confidence with Wigs

Wigs.com: How has wearing wigs influenced your confidence or other areas of your life?

Kristyna: "Wearing wigs has honestly changed my life. Before wigs I was always SO self-conscious about my bio hair and never felt beautiful. Wigs have allowed me to have my dream hair EVERY DAY…and once I quit caring if people knew I wore wigs, that’s when the real fun began! Now I love the different sides of my personality I get to tap into when I change up my styles and colors…I never thought in a million years that I would say this, but I absolutely LOVE being a redhead now!"

Kristyna's Advice For New Wig Wearers

Wigs.com: What advice would you give to yourself at the beginning of your wig wearing journey?

Kristyna: "Don’t worry yourself to death about people noticing you are wearing a wig. First off, we give ourselves WAY too much credit – people have way more important things going on in their own lives than to pay so much attention to the hair on our heads."

"Second, the everyday person has no idea to look at your hair line for knots, lace, etc….only your fellow wig wearers know to look for those things, and guess what? They are in the same boat as you, too!"

Wigs.com: What is the biggest challenge with wearing wigs?

Kristyna: "At this point in my wig wearing journey, STORAGE."

"When I first started wearing wigs, especially synthetics, the biggest challenge for me was feeling like the wig straight out of the box was the style I was stuck with. For so many women when you put on a wig for the first time it can be really stressful when a style doesn’t 'wow' you right away….and can leave you feeling like you’ll never find anything that feels like YOU."

"What I’ve learned over the years is that it is OK to make your wig your own! Everyone’s styles, preferences and face shapes are different – so don’t be afraid to play around with your wig to suit you, whether it be changing up the style (which is why I love heat friendly synthetic fibers), wearing it to your favorite hairstylist for a fresh cut, adding some wig wax for texture….the possibilities are endless, and I’ve been able to take wigs that I didn’t like at all and turn them into some of my all time favorites!"

Wigs.com: What do you love most about wearing wigs?

Kristyna: "I love the freedom I feel to change my hair up based on my mood, outfit, event - I mean, I never could have (or would have) been able to go from blonde to brunette to red. Now I get to experiment with SO many different colors and styles that would never have been possible without wigs!"
