Will my wig fall off?

Will My Wig Fall Off?

When you first start wearing wigs, you may question if your wig will fall off in public: The answer is no - as long as your wig fits properly!

With modern advances in wig construction, if you wear a wig properly, it is highly unlikely to fall off. However, your chances of losing your wig increase if you’re wearing the incorrect size.

How To Measure For A Wig

Before you ever purchase a wig, you need to know your wig size. It’s easy to find out. You only need a soft measuring tape. To find your size, measure the circumference from the nape of your neck to your hairline. See the video below for how to measure your head for wigs.

Wigs come in three sizes: petite, average, and large. The sizes correspond to circumference measurements in inches. If your head measures 20 to 21.5 inches, you need a petite wig. 21.5 to 22.6 inches fit an average size. Large size wigs are intended for 22.5 to 23 inches. If you wear the wrong sized wig, you can’t have a secure fit. Consider if someone put on a large size wig when they need a petite. The wig could slip right off!

How To Keep A Wig From Slipping Off

You may still feel anxious even with a properly sized wig. If you are still concerned and feel the included adjustable straps in your wig are not enough, you have options. Using a bobby pin, you can secure the wig to your biological hair.

Wig glue and tape are always a choice as well. If you’re a Jon Renau fan, you’ll be happy to know the brand sells an adhesive for wigs. A tiny dab is all you need. It washes off with water at the end of the day.

Bobby pins and combs won’t work as well if you have little or no hair. If this is you and you want a more secure fit, try out a liner or band. We love Amy Gibson's WigSECURE. One side is high-end velvety fabric, while the other side is a non-slip silicone strip. Either side can be used for securing your wig – it’s reversible!

The Sure Grip by BeautiMark is also available and it slips on your head like a hairband. The hypoallergenic comfort liner cushions your head to relieve pressure points on the head. It also keeps your wig secure throughout the day. It can be adjusted with its Velcro strap.

Modern wigs have definite staying power. Advances in wig construction have given us features like adjustable straps and ear tabs. If you’re wearing your correct size, your wig is not likely to fall off. Of course, for extra protection, you can always take additional precautions, including bobby pins or wig bands. If your wig feels secure, you do too! See the video below for visual assistance in wig sizes:
