Janeé Hill: The Woman Behind unbroken

October 10th, 2023

“unbroken is a new multi-media platform for women and girls taking action and creating change. It consists of a television series, events, and a mobile app coming soon. At the core of unbroken is a community aka squad of women and girls, who see and spur one another on to be their best.”
In a world full of challenges and obstacles, there are individuals who stand out as beacons of inspiration, strength, and resilience. Janeé Hill is one such remarkable individual, and her story is intertwined with the formation of the unbroken squad, a group of like-minded individuals who have come together to make a positive impact on their community and beyond.

Janeé approached our team at Wigs.com to join her movement as a partner. As a female-owned and led company, passionate about supporting and empowering women, the partnership made so much sense! But–the partnership goes so much deeper. Janeé recently shared with the world that she is also a wig wearer, and our partnership started with her as our customer. Like so many other women with hair loss, she was very private about her journey.

Her Wigs Are Her “Nec-accessories”

Wigs.com:Tell us about your hair loss journey that led you to wearing wigs and eventually sharing your truth with the world.
Janeé Hill: 2022 was a very challenging year for me on the personal front. I had immediate family members battling significant health challenges, and I was the primary care-giver. The stress of the situation caused hair loss. I was SOOO self-conscious.

I went to a wig store with someone who was battling cancer. She was having a hard time coming to grips with wearing a wig. To support her, I tried one on. OH. MY. GOODNESS! I felt like a new person. Instead of spending hours and LOTS of money on my hair (only to be halfway happy with it), I found a tool aka a hair “necessory” through wigs.

At first, I didn’t know how to explain my new look. I danced around the comments when people told me how fabulous I looked. That felt very inauthentic, yet, I wasn’t ready to come out of the wig closet.

Then, I realized that by sharing my wig-wearing, it might help others who are self-conscious about their hair so…I shared. Was it scary? Yes! Did I feel emotionally naked? Absolutely! Am I glad I did it? 100% If it helps 1 person normalize, it is worth it.

Doing Life Better, 'unbroken' Together

Wigs.com: What were you worried about before you shared your story?
Janeé Hill:I was afraid of judgment and that people would look at me differently.

We ALL have secrets and tips/ tricks we do to look and feel our best. How cool would it be if we ALL shared our secret weapons that help our confidence?
Wigs.com: What inspired you to start the unbroken movement?
Janeé Hill: Each of us have so much strength and experience to GIVE to, and GET from, one another. unbroken was created to provide an infrastructure for women to link arms and activate to create the change they want to see in the world. It starts at an individual level, with women looking inward to make personal change, and then banding together to focus outward to make external change.

Wigs.com: What are the key initiatives and expected impact of the unbroken movement?
Janeé Hill:  unbroken exists to arm, avail, and activate women to be the change they want to see in the world. unbroken's brand components are supportive community groups aka squads, mentor-led learning experiences, and meaningful media. Currently, unbroken, the tv series, airs on WFAA on Mondays at 2pm in Dallas Fort Worth. In 2024, the unbroken team is rolling out interest-focused squads and mentor-led learning experiences.

At the heart of unbroken is deep, meaningful connections based on vulnerability and a spirit of mentorship. We truly are doing life better. Together.
Wigs.com: What is PINK the bus and the purpose it serve?
Janeé Hill:  PINK the Bus is our beacon of hope. She serves as a backdrop for us to share compelling stories of women and girls who are making change happen. She is also the vehicle (pun intended) for community give-back activations. For instance, PINK the Bus recently rolled up at a food pantry in Dallas, with a load of high-achieving women ready to serve at the pantry.

During the 2023 holiday season, PINK the Bus serves as our “sleigh,” delivering goodies and experiences to women and girls who are making the world a better place.
Wigs.com: What is the future of the unbroken?
Janeé Hill:  Janeé Hill: The vision for unbroken is social change on a global level. We believe that if we, as women, can help each other be our best selves, that positive change will impact our families, our communities, our cities, and eventually our world. How do we do that? Through very focused community groups aka squads that are on mission to do life better. Together.
Janeé Hill and the unbroken Squad embody the spirit of resilience and the transformative power of collective action. Their story reminds us that even in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges, individuals and communities can come together to create positive change. Through their unwavering dedication to helping others, they are leaving an indelible mark on their community and inspiring countless others to embark on their own journeys of resilience and hope.
