Meet Natalie!

July 25th, 2023

We are excited to share Natalie’s hair loss journey that led her to wearing wigs. In a world where societal beauty standards often place immense emphasis on our hair, the topic of women's hair loss remains a sensitive and stigmatized issue. However, the power of storytelling and sharing women’s experiences has proven to be a transformative force, capable of forging deep connections and fostering a sense of belonging. By bravely sharing their hair loss experiences, women not only break the chains of isolation but also contribute to the creation of a compassionate community where others facing similar challenges find solace and understanding. Through these shared narratives, women can unite, offering support, empathy, and a reminder that they are not alone in their journey to embrace their unique beauty and self-worth beyond the confines of conventional aesthetics, which is why we are honored to share Natalie’s story. .
About Natalie
Wigs.com: Tell us about yourself and how your journey with hair loss persuaded you to be such an inspiration in the hair loss community.
Natalie: I have been interested in all things fashion for many years. Beautiful hair always catches my eye, a fashionable outfit will cause me to stop the person & let them know I love their style. Beautiful makeup will always get a compliment from me.
I always loved my bio hair & was devastated when it started thinning gradually, then quickly. I remember losing my sense of self because I was embarrassed about my thinning hair. Fast forward to searching on Instagram & finding a fashion influencer who was experiencing hair loss & had purchased her first wig. She looked amazing!! I immediately started searching YouTube for wig reviews & taking pages of notes on colors, cap features & hair styles. After making my choice I ordered Raquel Welch Simmer in Shaded Biscuit. I anxiously waited for the package to arrive. When I put that wig on my head I felt like my old self. I had beautiful hair again! I decided to share my hair loss story & my wig journey on Instagram in the hope of helping other women suffering from hair loss. I will always be grateful for the influencer who shared her story & hope that my story will give another person the courage to try a wig.

Finding Confidence with Wigs

Wigs.com: How has wearing wigs influenced your confidence or other areas of your life?
Natalie: My confidence was very low at the peak of my hair loss. I didn't want to be in pictures, I didn't want to show my scalp in public. I would spend so much time trying to use volumizers, fibers & heat tools to give my thin hair density. Once I began wearing wigs it was a game changer! I had beautiful hair in seconds every single day. I love going out, getting pictures taken & enjoying all the wonderful things life has to offer & never worrying about my hair. Getting hair compliments again feels really good too. Sounds like a small thing, but a compliment can make someone's day, so be sure & spread the positive & you just might give someone having a bad day a happy boost & bring a smile to their face!

My Advice For New Wig Wearers

Wigs.com: What advice would you give to yourself at the beginning of your wig wearing journey?
Natalie: If I had to start my wig journey all over again I would tell myself to buy the wig sooner! I wish I had started wearing wigs when my hair loss became obvious. I would also tell myself there is no "perfect" wig out there. You probably won't find one exactly like your bio hair because we get used to our thinning hair & suddenly have a full head of hair again. It's a process to adjust to wearing a wig all day. They are all beautiful & there are so many styles to choose from. Be patient with yourself & trust yourself on this journey to finding the hair that feels right for you.

Wigs.com: What is the biggest challenge with wearing wigs?
Natalie: I have done just about every activity wearing a wig that I did with my bio hair. One thing I find challenging is water activities. I would prefer not to glue or tape a wig to my head so swimming or water sports can be challenging. A challenge which can be easily fixed with wig or glue. I am challenging myself to overcome this hurdle in the near future. A huge bonus to wearing synthetic wigs is when they do get wet they don't lose their style. You will look as fabulous with a wet wig as a dry wig!

Wigs.com: What do you love most about wearing wigs?
Natalie: I love the confidence wearing wigs gives me. I love the versatility of changing styles & colors to go with an outfit. I absolutely love having beautiful hair every day. If I had to pick my absolute favorite thing it would be helping other women embrace wearing wigs & finding the joy they bring. Watching their faces light up with happiness when they see themselves with beautiful hair again is priceless. I was asked to volunteer at a wig event earlier this spring helping women with hair loss. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my hair loss journey. Friends were made, stories were shared & every person in the room suffered from hair loss so no one felt alone. Imagine sitting at a dinner where every person at the table was wearing a wig, not just you. It was amazing! We definitely had the best hair in the restaurant! Sharing the fact that I wear wigs & helping normalize wearing wigs is something I will continue to enjoy. Life is short, wear the hair!
