American Hair Style

American Hair Style

One of the most iconic looks of post World War II America for women were the Victory Rolls. They were the height of fashion and provided just the right amount of style and class while keeping your hair out of your face - which was essential for many women who had taken to working out in the world. And with the July being the month of independence, this look is perfect all month long!

However, as it is summer time, many women have already chopped off their long locks in order to remain cooler on hot summer days. Because of this, you may think that this look may not be possible for you; however, there are two ways to achieve this look without having the natural length: one with extensions and the other with a wig. Below are the instructions for both and whether you prefer one over the other, both are excellent ways to turn heads and be the toast of any summer event!

How To Get The Look... Using A Wig!

What you will need:

  • Wig
  • Backcombing Brush
  • Tail Comb
  • Crocodile Clips
  • Bobby Pins

How to Get The Look:

  • On a wig head, take the front section on one side of the wig and backcomb the hair from the back forward until the hair feels solid.
  • Smooth the front side and wind it around your hand.
  • Make sure the rolls have the iconic shape and pin into place.
  • Repeat on the other side.

How To Get The Look... Using Extensions!

What you will need:

  • Hairspray
  • Hair Pins
  • Backcombing Brush

How to Get The Look:

  • Once the extensions are clipped in and secure, start by carving out a section of hair at a diagonal and backcomb from the back.
  • Smooth the hair from the front side of the backcombed section.
  • Use your hand, winding the hair around your fingers to begin creating the iconic roll shape.
  • Smooth out the shape again, creating the size and shape desired, and begin pinning from the backside. Continue pinning until the roll feels secure.
  • If there is any excess extension hair poking out, hairspray it and pin the hair back behind the rolls.
  • Hairspray the entire side, and then repeat these steps on the other side of your head.
