In my opinion, one of the most important things I do is make a wig my own. Everyone probably has their own explanation about how they make a wig their own, but for me that mostly involves two things, styling and steaming.
Let’s face it, not all wigs come out the box looking great, some do but the majority need a bit of work. Normally the first thing I do when I get a new wig is wash it, in my opinion that will get rid of any “box head” and make it somewhat easier to style.
My two favorite tools are Jon Renau contour cream and my Jon Renau steamer, both work great for creating texture and steaming fibers off the face. Beautimark Shaping Creme is a fabulous styling product as well!
Jon Renau Steamer
I have had several wigs that when they arrived the hair was straight down over my eyes, by using the steamer I have been able to steam the hair away from my face. I used steam on my Jon Renau 'Kristin' to train the hair to fall perfectly.
Whatever products or techniques you choose to use, making a wig your own is an important step in learning to love wearing wigs!
