Where To Donate Wigs for Cancer Patients

JULY 8, 2019

Helping Chemotherapy Patients

After seeing so many of our clients go through cancer and other issues, we know how heartbreaking it is to watch someone you love not just battle this disease, but also watch them lose a bit of themselves as they began to lose their hair.

We are often contacted by women who inquire about where to donate or find free wigs. We know how important it is to take back control over your appearance when undergoing chemotherapy, and not everyone has a the finances to purchase a wig. This is especially true for cancer patients that have hefty medical expenses.

How To Donate Wigs

There are many ways to donate gently used wigs. Here at Wigs.com, we donate to American Cancer Society wig banks. This organization has resource centers all across the nation, offering wig programs that offer free wigs to cancer patients as well as other cancer-related items such as educational guides, information for medical resources and comforting gifts.

To donate your wig to American Cancer Society, search for your location on their website. Then choose the program type "Wigs - free" in the drop-down menu.

EBeauty.com

Another great organization that takes donated wigs called EBeauty.com. After the wigs are donated, they are then restored and offered for free to women with cancer in the United States.

EBeauty's mission statement is such:

"To enhance and strengthen the education, charitable and community support network for women undergoing cancer treatments. EBeauty works to improve the quality of life of women undergoing chemotherapy treatments through the implementation of its Wig Exchange Program and Hospital Partnership Program. Our primary goal is to provide all women, regardless of economic status or geographic location, access to wigs."

Donation Process

If you wish to donate a wig, the process is quite simple. There is a form for you to fill out and include in the package, and the wig must be packaged in plastic bags and bubble mailers to help with the sorting process once it is received, along with a $20 donation to cover any sorting, cleaning, and shipment to the future recipient. As this is a tax-deductible donation, if you want a tax receipt, all you need to do is attach a note in the package with your email address. It's as simple as that.

Headquartered in DC, most of the drop off locations are in the North East (DC, Maryland, and Virginia); but they also have some drop-offs in California. And don't worry if you aren't located nearby. You can also mail in your wig to the address listed here and on their website:

EBeauty.com
1350 Eye St. NW
Suite P-100
Washington, DC 20005
ebeauty@ebeauty.com

Also included on their website in relation to mailing and donating wigs is this statement: "If you do not live near any of our current drop off locations, then do not hesitate to mail us your wigs. We are always here to take a wig for another woman in need. If you have any questions, please email Alex Brown at Alex@EBeauty.com."

More Ways To Donate Wigs

It's amazing that organizations like this exist, working to help the recovery process in a way that many people may forget is so critical. Here are some additional resources to which you can donate wigs:
CancerCare.org

Donating Locally

You can also donate wigs to your local cancer center, cancer support group, or even oncology offices! So do a little research and find a location to donate near you.

When someone loses a part of themselves that has defined them for so long, they often feel like they are losing their identity - making recovery and fighting cancer even harder than before. When fighting a physical illness or disorder, it is imperative to take just as much care of the patient's mental state and outlook on the world as much as their physical healing.
