Can wigs have bangs?

October 31th, 2023

Yes, wigs can have bangs. Many wig styles come with bangs as part of their design. Bangs are the shorter sections of hair that frame the forehead. Whether you're looking for a wig with straight-across bangs, side-swept bangs–also known as a fringe, or any other bang style, you can find a wide variety of wigs to suit your preferences. Wigs with bangs can provide a convenient way to change your hairstyle without having to cut your own hair or to enhance your natural hair with a different look. They come in different lengths, textures, and colors, allowing you to customize your appearance to your liking.

How to style a wig with bangs?

Styling a wig with bangs is similar to styling natural hair. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you style a wig with bangs:
You will need:
  •  A wig with bangs (or if you have a wig you want to have bangs cut, hire a professional to do it for you. We do not advise to cut the bangs on your own–remember they do not grow back!)

  • Styling tools: comb, brush, hair clips, and bobby pins

  • Heat styling tools (for heat friendly fibers only): curling iron, flat iron.

  • Water bottle and heat protectant spray (if using heat tools)

  • Hair spray or styling products (optional)

Steps:
  • Prepare the wig

Place the wig on a canvas block head . This will help you work with the wig more easily.

  • Spray the wig with water

Gently comb through the wig to remove any tangles or knots. Start from the tips and work your way up to avoid damaging the hair fibers. Spray the water generously on the front of the wig, where the bangs are.

  •  Wash and condition (if necessary)

If your wig is made of human hair or heat-resistant synthetic hair, you can wash and condition it just like you would with natural hair. Be sure to follow the care instructions provided with the wig. Allow it to air dry or use a wig stand to maintain the shape.

  • Style the bangs

For traditional synthetic wigs, only use water and/or hairspray and a wide tooth comb or brush. You can heat up the fibers by rigorously rubbing your hands together until warm and then flatten them on your wig at the bangs area, holding the bangs in your preferred placement. Warming the fibers will help you move them more easily, but you cannot use a heat tool–only the heat from your hands.

For heat friendly fibers (heat friendly synthetic and/or human hair) you can use your preferred heat styling tools to achieve your style goals for blunt bangs, side swept bangs, curtain bangs, or curly/wavy bangs.

  • Trim or shape the bangs (if necessary)

If the wig's bangs are too long or need shaping, you can have them trimmed to your desired length or style. We recommend going to a professional hair stylist as altered wigs are not returnable.

Remember to be gentle when styling your wig to avoid damaging the fibers, especially if it's a synthetic wig. With the right care and attention, you can achieve a stylish look with your wig and its bangs.
