About Sandy

Wigs.com: Tell us about yourself and how your journey with hair loss persuaded you to be such an inspiration in the hair loss community.

Sandy: "I’m Sandy, the voice behind 'I Be Wiggin’. I have been married to my hubby Dave for 35 years, and we have three adult sons, two daughter-in-laws, and I am a Nannie to four beautiful grand babies!

I’m a Wig Ambassador, content creator, and a woman who knows firsthand what it feels like to look in the mirror and not recognize your own hair."

"My journey with hair loss didn’t start with confidence. It started with frustration. Confusion. A lot of 'Why is this happening?' moments. Hair is personal. It’s tied to identity, femininity, aging, all of it. Losing it can quietly shake your confidence in ways people don’t always talk about."

"I started sharing because I didn’t see enough women talking honestly about wigs. The awkward moments. The fact that yes, it’s a wig."

"My journey with hair loss didn’t just change my hair. It changed my voice. And now I use it to help other women realize they’re not flawed; they’re not broken, and they’re definitely not alone."

"And if we can laugh a little while we’re learning? Even better."

Finding Confidence with Wigs

Wigs.com: How has wearing wigs influenced your confidence or other areas of your life?

Sandy: "At the beginning, I wore wigs to blend in. I didn’t want anyone to know. I thought the goal was to make it look like 'my hair.' Now? I’m completely comfortable saying, 'Yes, it’s a wig.' That shift did something bigger than hair ever could. It taught me that confidence isn’t about convincing people. It’s about owning your choice."

"It also changed my relationship with aging. As women, we’re subtly told to shrink, soften, tone it down. Hair loss can amplify that narrative. Wearing wigs flipped it for me. I get to choose long hair at this age. I get to choose density. I get to choose volume. That’s power, not vanity."

"And here’s something people don’t expect me to say: wigs made me more visible. Because once I stopped hiding my hair loss, I started showing up more boldly everywhere else. On camera. In conversations.. I became 'I Be Wiggin’ because I stopped being afraid of the topic."

"So yes, wigs boosted my confidence. But more than that, they gave me control back. They gave me options. They reminded me that I’m not at the mercy of what my hair decides to do."

"And honestly? That kind of freedom touches every area of your life."

Sandy's Advice For New Wig Wearers

Wigs.com: What advice would you give to yourself at the beginning of your wig wearing journey?

Sandy: "I’d sit her down gently and I’d say… 'breathe.'"

"At the beginning, I thought I needed to get it perfect immediately. The right density. The right shade. The right style. I treated every purchase like it had to be 'the one.' What I know now is that wigs are a learning curve. You don’t fail at them. You learn them."

"And here’s the big one: don’t hide it. The moment you stop whispering about it, the fear loses its grip. You don’t owe anyone an explanation, but you also don’t have to carry it like a secret."

"Most of all, I’d tell her this: you’re going to turn this into something bigger than hair. The thing that feels like a setback right now? It’s going to shape your voice and your confidence."

"And one day, you’re going to help other women who are gonna shed some of the same tears you’re shedding right now. That alone makes the journey worth it."

Wigs.com: What is the biggest challenge with wearing wigs?

Sandy: "It’s the mindset."

"Technically, yes, there are challenges. Synthetic tangling. Finding the right cap fit. Figuring out density, shine, lace, lighting… all of that is real. There’s a learning curve and nobody talks about that part enough."

"But the hardest part? The emotional adjustment. In the beginning, you’re not just learning wigs. You’re navigating a new identity."

"The second biggest challenge is expectations. Social media makes it look instant and effortless. Pop it on, done. In real life? It takes trial and error. The first one might not be perfect. You might pick the wrong shade. You might feel strange and awkward.  Welcome to the club."

"It gets better, I promise."

Wigs.com: What do you love most about wearing wigs?

Sandy: "The freedom to choose. I can wake up and decide who I want to be that day. Long and layered. Sleek and polished. Soft waves. A little extra volume because why not?"

"I also love the ease. There is something powerful about getting ready without stress.  I put it on, adjust, walk out the door. Done. That simplicity brings a calm confidence that’s hard to explain until you experience it."

"And here’s the part people don’t always expect: wigs are fun. After going through hair loss, 'fun' wasn’t the word I would’ve used to describe my hair journey. Now it is. I experiment more. I take more risks. I feel playful again."

"At this stage in life, that’s a gift."

"Wearing wigs didn’t just change my hair. It gave me freedom, creativity, and a deeper sense of ownership over how I show up in the world. And that? I love."
